Galaxy Eggs

Happy Easter! Teach your kids about the galaxy while making these eggs that are out of this world!

What is a galaxy?

A galaxy is a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar systems. A galaxy is held together by gravity.

What galaxy do we live in?

Our galaxy is called the Milky Way

Can you believe that Some scientists think there could be as many as one hundred billiongalaxies in the universe!??!

Materials:

Dyeable plastic eggs or real eggs (please note that if you use real eggs, they will not be edible after you use the paint)
Acrylic Paints (can use washable paints too, but acrylic works best)
Paintbrush
Sponges (just cut up an old kitchen sponge into 6 smaller pieces)
An old toothbrush (or stiff paint brush)

Color palette:

black

blue

teal (or light blue)

purple (can mix blue and red)

pink (can mix red and white)

gold (any type of metallic paint or glitter will work)

Directions:

1. Paint the eggs black and let them dry

2. Using a paint brush, paint about 70% of the egg using your blue paint, you can create any design that you want

3. While the paint is still wet, take a sponge and add the light blue/teal color inside of the blue paint to add some dimension

4. Using a new piece of the sponge, add a little bit of purple on the ends of the design

5. Let the eggs dry

6. Using a new piece of sponge, add some pink paint to your egg wherever you want to make it pop!

7. You can go over the egg with a clean, dry sponge to remove some of the paint and add some dimension

8. Using a new piece of sponge, add some gold for a little shimmer and shine!

9. Add a a very small amount of black paint to the egg (using a sponge)

10. Take the toothbrush and dip it in water

11. Then, dip the toothbrush in white paint and 'flick' the bristles of the brush onto the egg to make the stars

12. Let the egg dry

13. Ta da! You have created a galaxy easter egg!
