Glitter Playdough

Playdough allows you to create, discover, explore, and imagine! Check out the We Are Teachers website for 20 ways you can make play dough educational for all ages. My favorite activities from their list are: Creating Parts of a Cell, Moon Phases and Engineer a Playdough Masterpiece.

Now for the fun part - let's make some play dough! I love a little extra sparkle so I decided to add glitter to the mix. I used kool-aid powder to color the dough instead of dye (it’s less messy and won't stain your hands!).

Materials:

  • 2 cups of flour

  • 1/4 cup of salt

  • 2 tablespoons of Kool aid powder

  • Glitter

  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup of boiling water (adult super vision required)

  • Mixing spoon

  • Mixing bowl

Directions:

1. Pour the flour, salt, Kool Aid power & glitter into the bowl and mix

2. Add the vegetable oil and water to the bowl and mix

3. Use your hands to knead the dough

3. If the dough is still too watery, add more flour

4. If you want to make the color darker, add more Kool-aid powder

5. Ta-da, you now have glitter play dough!

Note: This recipe will expire after a few weeks. If you switch out the Kool-Aid for food coloring and add cream of tartar (this acts as a preservative) the playdough will last for six months!

Shoutout to @emmymade for the idea.
